 Roshan Jadhav

A budding Footballer of great Promise

RoshanIf ever an angel appeared in the dreams of striker Roshan Jadhav, with a favour to grant a boon to him, the 13-year-old Jadhav would bend on one knee and seek the conversion of his Udayachal High School team into Real Madrid. Perhaps he did experience the virtual reality of his fantasy in the final of the MSSA-Colgate Football Tournament in the under-14 category. Roshan- the left-out forward personified the exploits of his dream team, Real Madrid, with a scintillating performance as he scored a priceless goal in Udayachal's convincing 3-0 victory over St. Blaise in the final.

“He can fire a goal from a 0 degree angle as he has shown in this final. He can also play left-in. As a player, we rely on him because he is courageous, confident, hardworking, dedicated... ” said coach, Hari Om Phull, who was probably short of adjectives in the appraisal of his ward.

Roshan - a VII Std student of Udayachal school -is an ideal example of a youngster who can excel not only in sports but also in academics. He is an all-rounder because, in addition to his football skills, he scores more than 90 percentage marks in academics, with Mathematics being his favourite subject. This admirer of Shakespeare has also shown a glimpse of his abundant talent in athletics as well. He bagged the bronze medal for the relay event in the Inter-School Athletic Competition held at the Mumbai School Sports ground in 1999 with 100 meters sprint and long jump being his pet events.

The 156 cms tall Roshan eulogizes the mercurial Brazilian forward Ronaldo. The reason. “Ronaldo is a great forward with good speed who can successfully convert any opportunity”, replied the talented lad. Of the Indian footballers, he admires Baichung Bhutia for his bicycle kick. Roshan fancies Adidas shoes because they are good in quality and last longer. He also recalls how he enjoyed the roller coaster at Fantasy land in Jogeshwari with his friends. Roshan practices every day in the evening under the eagle eyes of coach Hari Om Phull. He wants to play for the clubs and gymkhanas if he gets the right sponsorship in order to achieve his greater ambition of playing for the country.
