Bangalore has a pretty happening fashion scene, and is, at any given time, generally over-run by models and the designers. The only pre-requisites for shopping at designer boutiques are: A model's body (negotiable at times). A well-stocked wallet (non-negotiable)
Friend’s wedding round the corner and you want to sport something unusual? A hip social do just a day away and your wardrobe looks pathetically ill-equipped? Or is it just one of those days when you are in a mood to indulge in some heavy-duty splurge? If occasion demands and pockets permit, take a different route to perk up your cupboard and watch eyes glow and heads turn as you swish into the gathering in that prized attire.
Boutique shopping has caught on the fancy of fashionistas, who want to flaunt a style swalpa different. A stroll down the Vittal Mallya Road will give a glimpse of this latest fashion fetish. To begin with, you have Ffolio and Ritu Kumar. While the former showcases old and new designers, the latter is a standalone store, displaying beautiful creations by one of the most pronounced names in the country’s fashion circuit.
One look at the range of clothes at Ffolio is sure to leave you delirious with delight. You are literally spoilt for choice and will have a trying time making up your mind from the range of western and ethnic wear for both men and women. Ritu Kumar’s collection of everything from bridal-wear to prêt bears the elegant signature look that her line is so famous for. Further down the road, there is Atmosphere and Evolution—definite stopovers in your boutique-hopping spree.
Just off Vittal Mallya Road, there is the fabulous boutique, Cinnamon. Brainchild of Abhishek and Radhika Poddar, this place blends the aesthetic character of an art gallery with the functionality of a garment store. Gorgeous saris, elegant wraps and amazing tops share shelf space with accessories like jewellery, belts, bags and footwear. Cinnamon houses the lines of some of the well-known names in the industry.
Another place that is flooded with signature wear is Leela’s. Look around the grand display and prepare yourself to be floored. Other standalone designer stores in the city include Deepika Govind, Priya Simran and Namrata G.
Munish Hinduja’s Scandale, a boutique, and Manoviraj Khosla’s Kingfisher line of apparel are also for lovers of designer-wear.
Designer wear is primarily meant for divas with deep pockets, so you are likely to feel short-changed at times. But then, didn't we say that exclusivity came with a price?
