Mhada hsg dream takes e-route

Providing a golden opportunity for those seeking affordable housing in the city, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) has for the first time made provision to fill applications online for its 4,034 flats.
From Wednesday onwards, buyers can apply online for Mhada’s fourth consecutive lottery to be conducted on May 31.
Instead of queuing up for hours to get a Mhada lottery form, citizens can register themselves for the draw through online forms for this year’s lottery. The new system will not only save the people’s time but will also reduce data entry work for the housing authority.

Mhada chairman Amarjit Singh Manhas said that this year applicants will have to fill up forms online. “This will reduce errors while filling forms. The system, which has been devised by Mastek, will not allow participants to upload incorrect information. The applicant will have to go to a bank (appointed by the board) to pay the form deposit and charges. This will also reduce the time taken by the bank to enter data,’’ said Manhas. Of 4,034 flats, 3,133 flats are earmarked for the low income group (LIG) category, 365 for the high income group (HIG), 280 for middle income group (MIG) and 256 for the Economically Weaker Section.
Mhada hsg Incidentally, as per Mhada’s original plan, a total 3,170 flats were planned for the EWS category. However, the cost of these flats increased as the size was increased from 180 sq ft to 300 sq ft. An individual applying for an EWS category flat, with an income of Rs 8,000, would have had to shell out roughly Rs 15 lakh. This high cost would have kept away a large number of prospective buyers from applying for the lottery.
“We converted 2,914 flats admeasuring 305 sq ft carpet area from EWS to the LIG category. This way, even though the size of flats is small, those with a small budget can easily apply for these,’’ said a senior Mhada official. Besides, Mhada also converted 172 flats admeasuring 476 sq ft carpet area at Shimpoli in Kandivli from MIG to HIG category as flats in this area cost approximately Rs 55 lakh.
